Working alongside Gander Careers, we’re looking for businesses and individuals in Stockport to become a Career Mentor, share their experience and inspire local young people in their understanding of jobs, employers and career opportunities across the borough.
Whether you have a spare 5 mins to talk about a typical day doing something you love, half an hour to deliver a careers talk or a whole day to host a tour of your workplace, we’d love to hear from you!
Whatever job you do or qualifications you have, we’re simply looking for real-life encounters with employers and employees to inspire the next generation of talent about the career choices available in our town and beyond.
Together with Gander Careers, we’re supporting local schools and colleges to deliver a range of virtual and in-person careers information, including:
Day-in-the-life Videos / Career Shorts
We will send you an information sheet with guidelines on how to record your video and 5 questions you should try to answer. We will then edit the video to a short clip and send back to you for approval before sharing in our video library.
Employer Talks or Interviews
We will help you to create a presentation to be provided to schools and colleges. We will assist in setting a topic and creating content relevant to the age groups and subject matter. We can host the event online, pre-record a video or arrange the in-person event date.
Workplace Visit or Virtual Tour
We will send you an information sheet with guidelines on how to record your video and what to include. Alternatively, we can help you to complete the necessary risk assessments and organisation with schools or colleges to host an in-person building tour.
Project Work or Virtual Work Experience Task
We will help you to design your project and translate your ideas into a relevant curriculum-based task for students – delivered in-person or virtually. This can be a one-off project or a series of small projects to be completed over a term or academic year.
These are a great way to set a competition or screen applicants for an internship or work placement. You may also wish to manage the project as a Career Mentor to your chosen group of students.
Work Experience Placement or Insight Day
We will help you to plan your work experience placement and complete all paperwork and risk assessments. We can help you to design and set topics to deliver to students or attend on the day to help you coordinate your Insight Day.
We’re particularly keen to hear from anyone who can share their experience and expertise in the following areas:
We’d also love to hear from those who studied in the following areas or who could offer a work-based project or employer talk linked to the curriculum for these subjects:
To find out more or to register your interest, simply get in touch with our team today. We’ll arrange an initial meeting to discuss the time and resources you’re able to offer and discuss the type of support you’d like to provide.
