Development Award Grants available from Princes Trust

The Prince’s Trust Development Awards are small, fast-access grants to support those aged 16-30 to progress into education, training or employment.

The development award grants can help to cover the cost of course fees, tools or equipment to help you achieve your goals. They are also currently offering a number of different grants to support those aged 16-30 who are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Development awards

These awards can be granted to cover costs such as:

  • Course materials, such as books, equipment etc

  • SIA Cards

  • ID, such as passports or driving licenses

  • Travel cards

  • Clothing for work or interviews

To be eligible, you must be:

  • Aged 16-30 and living in Greater Manchester

  • Studying less than 14 hours a week or not in compulsory education

  • Unemployed or working less than 16 hours a week

Interim Transport Offer

The Princes Trust are offering free 28-day bus passes to care leavers, based in Greater Manchester, aged 18-21.

To apply, please reach out to your local Care Leaving Team who will make the application on your behalf. These bus passes are available to support you moving into education, employment or training.

Living Expense Offer

If you are aged 16-30 and have lost your job, or your income has been negatively impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, they are offering up to £50 to support you with your basic shopping needs.

They can grant £50 vouchers for your local supermarket to enable you to top-up on essentials without the need to access emergency food provisions, such as food banks.

If you do not feel safe and well enough to travel to your local supermarket, they can also offer supermarket delivery services up to the value of £50.

Interim Wi-Fi Offer

If you are aged 16-30, Princes Trust are offering to provide a grant for pre-paid Wi-Fi dongles, so you can continue to access your education and your support networks throughout Covid-19, without impacting your phone’s data limit.

If you do not have Wi-Fi at home, or are struggling with your current allowance to reach out to others when you’re in need of support, they can provide these dongles directly to your home address, and provide top-ups on a monthly basis when required.

Computing Equipment Offer

If you are struggling to access our Prince’s Trust courses online as you do not currently have a computer at home, they are offering to provide a grant for tablets and laptops to support you in engaging in education, courses and training.

To be eligible, you must be:

  • Aged 14-30, not in education, training or employment and need support getting into programmes offered by The Prince’s Trust

  • In Year 11, attending a Pupil Referral Unit in Greater Manchester and require support in accessing remote learning to support your transition into post-16 education or training

Please note, if you are a care leaver or have a social worker and require computing equipment, you can speak directly to your social worker and/or care leaving team who will be able to provide you with computing equipment through the Government scheme.
