We are looking for volunteers to help provide peace of mind to the parents (who may be elderly) or relatives of people with learning disabilities.  Ensuring that advice, support, and information are available in a timely fashion. The role might well involve helping relatives keep in touch with their loved one or their carers. 

Key skills needed:

  • Enjoy helping others 
  • Good Listener 

Rescare is run by, and for benefit of, learning disabled people and their families.  Rescare provide information and guidance, enabling families to understand their rights and access necessary support.  Everyone joining the Rescare Team receives support and training. 

Location/s:  UK Wide 

 

Start date: Rolling Start Dates 

 

No. of days required per week/month/year:   Require at least 1 year commitment – it may only be 1 hour per week depending on the needs of the family the volunteer is matched with 

 

No. of hours per day:  1 

 

Timings:  Confirmed once matched 

 

Does the role require a DBS check and will Rescare provide this?   Yes a basic DBS and Rescare will fund this.

 

Are Travel Expense Paid:  Yes 

 

Do the volunteers need their own Insurance: No 

 

Have you checked that your Employer’s Liability covers Volunteers? Yes 

 

Any special requirements: Able to undertake training modules remotely so will need access to a tablet or a laptop for this and be confident using Zoom. 

 

What will the volunteer get out of doing this task?  

  • They will increase their skills in supporting people 
  • Build skills in communication 
  • They will also learn about Rescare and the field of learning disabilities and complex needs
