Bridge College is a specialist college in Manchester for students aged 16–25 with disabilities, complex needs, and autism. We are looking for a volunteer to support our Horticulture Tutor in preparing and maintaining the grounds so that they are ready for students to use and learn in. This will include helping with activities in our greenhouse, annual vegetable beds, polytunnels, perennial fruit and vegetable beds, and compost area. This is a great opportunity for people looking to use or expand their gardening skills while enjoying some time in the fresh air!
Tasks and activities
Bed and border maintenance (weeding).
Plant propagation and production.
Tool maintenance – tool audit, cleaning, sorting, organizing.
Pest and disease control.
Preparation of other horticulture resources which link to learning activities/sessions.

Volunteers will need
Horticulture/gardening experience (home gardening is fine).
A willingness and ability to follow instructions.
Awareness of health and safety risks when working with gardening tools.
The amount of time volunteers give is entirely optional, but we would hope for at least 4 hours per week. If a volunteer wanted to be involved for 1-2 days per week we could accommodate this.
