We are looking for Support Workers at Bridge College in Openshaw. Support Workers play a vital role in ensuring the students are supported in their learning programs, including extended curriculum, external placements and visits.
This is a great opportunity for Teaching Assistants looking to broaden their experience within SEN or Support Workers/Care Assistants who are unable to meet the 24/7 flexibility required within the care sector.
Bridge College is the Together Trust’s specialist education college for students aged 16 to 25 years with disabilities, complex needs and autism. Promoting a multidisciplinary approach to learning the college has expertise in supporting students with a wide range of needs.
Under direction of a session leader you will provide support and guidance to small groups of students providing intervention support with their learning programmes, communication systems and learning environments. You will provide 1-1 support for SEND students.
Proactive in completing assessments of students’ progress and contributing to planning and review of processes you will communicate effectively with parents, carers and others ensuring confidentiality is maintained at all times.
Supporting teaching staff to plan lessons and evaluate learning, you will write reports and maintain records using college information and recording systems as required. Working alongside therapists to embed strategies to support engagement in learning you will undertake further training and communication, technology, therapeutic services and personal care intervention to enhance student’s learning opportunities by removing barriers to learning, you will participate in supervision and appraisal processes as well as contribute to college self-assessment reviews throughout the year.
As part of your role will involve driving groups of students and staff when required using college and/or own vehicles candidates with a full clean driving licence are encouraged to apply.
You must have experience of supporting young people with a variety of complex learning needs as well as some experience of working with young adults with SEND in a learning environment. Passionate about advocating for the rights of young people with SEN you will understand the complexities of a variety of disabilities and adapt your approach to support students.
Understanding safeguarding concepts you will have knowledge of the needs of students with learning difficulties and complex needs and how these can be addressed. A thorough understanding of what constitutes support for students with learning difficulties you will be familiar with alternative methods of communication e.g. Makaton, PECs.
Creativity for stimulating and engaging pupils in their learning programmes you will have a real passion for education and improving the attainment of students, you will be willing to support with all aspects of personal care and meet individual medical needs.
A reflective practitioner you will be self-driven to develop personal skills through CPD opportunities as well as have resilience and work dynamically in pressured situations.
Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy is essential for this role and you must have good general education and good written English. Those who have Level 2 or Level 3 in Care and Learning Support are highly desirable however this is not essential.
