Stockport Together require two volunteers who have experience with hyperactive and challenging behaviour in young people. The selected volunteers will support a Sessional Specialist Youth Worker to run a Thursday evening youth group set up to support the friends of a young person who received life changing injuries in a recent car accident.  

Skills required: 

Be a Good Listener 

You will be able to understand that the young people have suffered a trauma with what’s happened to their friend who is currently still in hospital with life changing injuries.  It will include having to hear the boys frustration and anger towards the organisation the car driver is from.

Be Understanding and Non Judgmental  

The young people you will be working with are judged and labelled ‘naughty’ all time.  This is not always the case, some have undiagnosed issues.  You need to have a thick skin and be able to handle behaviour issues.  You will be asked to help ensure boundaries set for the young people are adhered to. 

 

Location/s:  Adswood Young People’s Centre, Neston Grove, Adswood, Stockport ,SK3 8PH  

 

Start date: Immediately  

 

No. of days required per week/month/year:  Every Thursday  

 

No. of hours per day: 2.5 

 

Timings: 5.30pm - 8pm 

 

DBS Check: This role does requires a DBS check and this will be provided for the selected volunteers

 

Are Travel Expense Paid:  Yes 

 

Insurance required: No 

 

Any special requirements: Understanding of young people and how trauma can affect them.
