An opportunity has arisen for a hard working and flexible Yard Operative committed to working safely at all times to join the Totally Local Company Recycling and Refuse waste collection team.

Main Purpose of the Job

To help make Stockport cleaner and to minimise its impact on the environment primarily by keeping operational depots in an orderly, tidy and well maintained manner 
To contribute to the key objective for Environmental Services to provide cleaner streets and less waste in the most efficient and effective way 
To always portray a positive image of the company and to contribute to the achievement of its business aims and objectives 

Duties and Responsibilities

To keep the operational depots in an orderly, tidy and well maintained manner. 
Maintaining well organised stocks of containers, PPE and other equipment. 
Taking receipt of deliveries, issuing supplies, stock-taking and accounting for stock held. 
Tidying, cleaning and simple repairs and maintenance of the depot are also required.

 

Resources

Company stocks, uniforms and other PPE provided for the tasks at hand.
Handling of waste containers and occasional operation of Company lifting and emptying equipment.
Such tools and equipment as are provided for the task in hand.  

 

Job Activities

 To comply with all requirements relating to health, safety and welfare provisions and to report as appropriate equipment defects, working practices and any issues that may adversely impact on the health, safety or welfare of any person.  
To help make Stockport clean and to minimise its impact on the Environment by supporting Company operations by the maintenance of clean and tidy depots and ensuring proper delivery, handling, storage, issuing and accounting for stocks of containers, equipment and other Company material (including fuels) at the depots.  
To minimise waste and maximise recycling during all duties.  
To ensure the necessary levels of stock are maintained and properly issued as required to undertake stock control and stock-taking.  
To undertake the duties of a fire marshal.  
To ensure that all duties are undertaken in compliance with the relevant work instructions and to complete such documentation and records as may be required.  
To ensure that all containers are maintained in a clean and serviceable state and that defects or damage are repaired or reported. This will require arranging for containers to be emptied; cleaning the containers and either undertaking maintenance or arranging for it to be done.  
To drive such Company vehicles as the post holder is trained and authorised to in order to complete duties and transport such personnel and equipment as, where and when required.  
To undertake the cleansing and assist in the fuelling of Company vehicles as required.  
To work overtime when required. 
To properly use and maintain in a serviceable and clean state PPE and Company uniforms.  
To collect, retrieve and deliver a variety of any waste or other containers as required.  
To participate in Company-training and personal development in order to maintain an adequate working knowledge so as to properly fulfil the requirements of the post.  
To deliver information to the public and others regarding collection and cleansing services or any aspect of the Company’s business as required.   
To participate in pilot schemes and trials of new operating methods as required.  
To assist in the handling, reorganisation and transport of various items of Company stock and equipment as required.  
To work from any Company depot or other workplace as required.
