Examples of Stockport Alumni

Phil Foden

Phil Foden is a Football superstar. Scouted at the age of 8 at a local football club, he has grown strength to strength in his sport and is now playing amongst some of the biggest footballers in the world! Playing for Manchester City, Phil Foden has scored a whopping 29 goals across 5 Premier League seasons and 4 of those seasons Manchester City had won the title – extremely impressive for a 22 year old.

Will Mellor

If you’re not sure who Will Mellor is (you’ve most likely been hiding under a rock) it might be worth asking your teacher or parents! Will Mellor is an actor, famous for roles in soaps such as Coronation Street, Eastenders and Hollyoaks to drama series like Line Of Duty – Will is a Stockport Household name. Studying at Stockport’s very own Werneth School and growing up in Bredbury, Will’s rise to fame is an interesting one with some incredible achievements under his belt.

Dame Joan Bakewell

Growing up in Heaton Moor, Dame Joan Bakewell is a clear example of an extremely intelligent woman who went on to do incredible things. Joan Bakewell went from Studying at Stockport’s Girls School to Cambridge University to study Economics then History. Starting as a production manager at BBC, Joan kickstarted her career as a broadcaster and TV presenter as well as a columnist on many popular newspaper publications like The Guardian. Nathanial J Hall

Nathanial is a Stockport born actor, playwright and HIV activist. Most known for starring in Channel 4, BAFTA nominated television series ‘It’s a Sin’, Nathanial’s passion for theatre and acting shone through when delivering his role as Donald Bassett. Nathanial’s work also gained traction after he created his award-winning show ‘First Time’ about his personal experience with HIV which received audience and critical acclaim.
