National Careers Week (NCW) is a celebration of careers guidance and free resources in education across the UK. The aim is to provide a focus for careers guidance activity at an important stage in the academic calendar to help support young people leaving education.
However, it’s also a great resource for job seekers and career changers of all age groups. You can find out about different sectors and career pathways, learn about employers hiring in a range of industries, and gain an insight into the world of work from day-in-the-life encounters with various employees and business leaders.
So whether you’re choosing which subjects to study at school, college or university; exploring career and job options for when you finish; or considering a career change to a completely new sector, there’s something in #NCW2022 for everyone.
Careers Week encourages education and training providers to bring together students, local employers and advisers through careers events and activities. During National Careers Week, it's up to every school, academy and college to offer careers advice and guidance to their students.
You can find free resources, information on current career opportunities and advice on activities and exercises all on the NCW website.
We've also pulled together a complete guide to National Careers Week 2022 for you to download.
There’s a range of different events happening throughout the week – from national employers and careers providers, as well as regional training providers, employers and educators. Whether you want to sit back and explore a range of videos and online webinars from the comfort of your own home; join in interactive insight days virtually or in-person; or pop along to a jobs fair and meet new companies directly, you can find out about the latest events in our Events Calendar.
Here at Stockport Jobs Match, we’ll be delivering a range of activities, events and resources as part of National Careers Week to support local young people and active job seekers of all ages to find out more about careers in Stockport, now and in the future.
Whatever stage you’re at in your career journey – from first job to experienced hire, school leaver to graduate – you’ll be able to find out more about starting or developing a career in your chosen sector.
By taking part, you’ll be able to:
Hear from featured Employers across Greater Manchester sharing experiences of workplaces and live job vacancies
Find out what different jobs involve, the training required and the routes to progress through encounters with employees and experts
Learn about labour market information, careers advice, development opportunities and future prospects
Discover local training providers and support services offering funded courses and employment support programmes to help you gain the skills and qualifications required – including work experience, traineeships and apprenticeships
Our line-up for this year includes:
We’ll be producing an A-Z of careers in Stockport, containing the latest LMI data and insights from real-life employers. If you’re looking to kickstart your career locally, this essential guide will help you understand what employers are looking for, now and in the future, key areas of economic growth in our borough, as well as what jobs are available and what they actually do!
We’ll be streaming a 1-hour webinar during National Careers Week to help you learn more about Stockport’s economy, the Local Plan, key areas of investment and what we’re doing to help employers, training providers and educators work together to build a skilled workforce for the years to come.
You’ll hear from local employers explaining more about the work-ready skills they need, training providers discussing courses and qualifications to upskill or retrain, learn about the support services available from funding and partners – as well as how to have career conversations with those around you and access work experience or volunteering opportunities.
Every day from 10am-12pm, we’ll be delivering sector-themed job fairs for those not currently in employment who are actively seeking work to start straight away. We’ll be joined by employers big and small, eager to meet active jobseekers with the skills needed to join their growing teams here in Stockport.
Taking place at Ingeus, Kingsgate House, Wellington Road, you’ll need to speak to your work-coach to take part and join our face-to-face sessions. But don’t worry, we’ll be recording the events and sharing these online so all jobseekers (even those still in work but considering a move) can access the job opportunities available.
As part of #NCW2022, we’ll be launching our new Careers Hub, containing sector guides, LMI data, employer videos and career stories. Together with a range of lesson plans, individual and group activities for students, free downloads and activity packs, there’s plenty for local teachers, careers advisors and individuals to take advantage of.
We’ll also be hosting a Live Webinar on Wednesday 16th March for careers advisors to learn more about delivering hyper-regionalised CIEAG to their students. Contact our team now if you'd like to book your place or receive a copy of the recorded event after it takes place.
If you'd like to be involved in National Careers Week, we’d love to hear from you. This could include:
Our digital careers prospectus will be distributed to local schools, colleges, job centres, training providers and employment support partners.
We’re looking for an employer to be featured free-of-charge on each sector page to highlight the careers available in different industries. You’ll need to share your logo, a quote about the importance of skills and future careers in your sector, as well as any corporate videos or company information you’d like to add to our careers hub.
We’re delivering a range of job fairs focusing on sector-themes 10am-12pm each day, where you’ll be able to deliver a short 10-15 min presentation to active jobseekers about a career in your industry and promote live jobs and apprenticeships.
Our support partners will be on hand to assist attendees with applications and CV support and you can even organise initial interviews on the day.
Want to speak to young people, parents, teachers, training providers and jobseekers directly? Keen to influence the future talent pool and explain the skills needed to help your business grow? We have 2 available slots for local employers to join our Future World of Work Webinar (to be pre-recorded WC 28th February) to talk for 10-15 mins about careers of the future in Stockport from an employer perspective.
Record a short video about your job, your business or your vacancies to tell local students and/or jobseekers what you love about what you do and inspire others to apply or pursue a career in your sector, start a new job or sign up to an apprenticeship. Help us to build a video library to help more people to understand the jobs on offer and skills we need across our borough.
If you or your business have more time and resources to spare, we can help you partner with local schools and colleges to deliver a careers talk (online or in-person), set a work experience project or virtual workshop, or explain how to organise a work experience placement or insight day for your business.
You will be able to advertise your jobs for free on our dedicated Jobs Board, receive CVs directly from attendees during and after the event, as well as having your job vacancies promoted on our supporting Information Packs.
